    A Miracle is…

Looking your greatest fear in the face and laughing at it!

It is not the fear that stops you, but it is the thought behind the fear that stops you everytime.

“Could anything be simpler than sweeping your own floor? Complications arise only when “thinking” interferes with performance. When you become too conscious of your actions, too careful, you can encounter a kind of ‘nervous’ negative energy.” Gary Thorpe

Today my electric floor sweeper died before I had a chance to finish the job. For some reason as I reached for the “not often used” broom I thought about Sweeping Changes by Gary Thorpe. Throughout the book he emphasizes “being with” your mundane tasks and chores as if they were sacred acts.

So instead of hurrying through this chore to “get it over with” (that “nervous” negative energy) I decided to “be with” the action of sweeping the floor treating it as though it was the most important activity I could be doing in that moment. After all I was doing it with God. Sweeping the floor became a very pleasant experience!
When we choose to see our routine tasks as meaningful we send a message to ourselves that we are valuable and making a valuable contribution. We put the negative spin on chores and we can transcend that thinking, see it differently and experience our very own miracle.

Challenge yourself–choose a task or chore that you always want to rush through and instead let it flow from you, see it as a very important and vital activity to your life, your environment, your family, yourself!

I would love to hear about your experiences!

“I can see peace instead of this” is one of my “well worn” prayers and a lesson from A Course In Miracles. It’s short, sweet and simple. It instantly grounds me in those
moments where life seems to come barreling out of the blue or when it isn’t
going as expected—usually the way I think it’s suppose to go! The”pause” button gets hit and I have a moment to reflect. I am faced with a choice–chaos or peace. It’s not always easy to choose peace, so I’ve made a commitment to practice peace whenever I can. Then I’m ready when “life happens”.

Traffic is a great “peace practice” starter. When held up due to construction or accidents choose peace. Put the lid on fuming, take a deep breath and say a quick prayer, express gratitude (you just received an instant break from the rat race), meditate for a moment or send a blessing to everyone on the road.

When I make a choice to see a less than perfect situation from another perspective and change my behavior or attitude around it, I’ll come out feeling more peaceful every time. Life will never come up short on chaotic moments. Isn’t it wonderful that we can change them in an instant with a few simple words? Now that’s a miracle!

Are you following your heart or is your head leading the way?

Did you know that the heart actually has a very powerful intelligence of its own?
The Institute of HeartMath www.heartmath.com has been
studying the heart and its “power” for many years and has come up with some
    fascinating data. Check it out.

Most of us have been conditioned to listen to our rational mind first then once in
awhile listen to our hearts, but I see all that changing. The heart will start
to take the lead and the rational mind will follow. I have come to understand
this as “whole-heartedness”, our heart and mind working in sync.

When we listen to our heart we’re following our intuition which is another way
Spirit communicates with us. So often we miss these beautiful prompts because
our rational mind gets in the way with more practical information or doubt pops
in. Sound familiar? However, as the world evolves, we will go about our
business and personal interactions living every day listening to the guidance
of Spirit, a guidance that has its origins in love. Imagine it!

There are some things you can do now to listen to your heart more frequently,
strengthen your “intuitive muscles” and begin to trust the prompts. The
messages you receive from your heart can seem odd or impractical and you can
easily put those messages aside and follow the lead of your rational mind
    instead.

The first step is to slow down. Spirit can not get through when you are going
seventy miles an hour! Be mindful, conscious, present, during all your activities
and tasks. Eat, walk and even talk more slowly, more purposefully.

You will always know that your heart is leading because you will feel good. When
making a decision be conscious of how you are feeling. Any heaviness involved
around the decision is not Spirit-lead and is your intuition saying “no”. You
can prepare by understanding how your body feels when you are happy and how it
feels when you are sad, angry, or anxious. That will create your “decision
barometer” and become the major clue for which way to go.

Following your heart will open you up to the miraculous. These are just a couple of
things you can do to get started on opening to amazing experiences in your
life. I also recommend the book The Hidden Power of the Heart by Sara Paddison. It has wonderful exercises and terrific information on opening to your heart.

Let me know how you see your life changing as you pay more attention to the
    messages of your heart.

I love going on “miracle hunts”! To find them, though, you have to adopt a “miracle mindset”.  The first step is to throw out the belief that miracles are always these huge, bigger than life events that only happen to other people, miracle hunts include all miracles. Next you need to open into a place of wonder and curiosity–be a five year old! Then set your intention to find as many miracles as you can wherever you can.

Start your hunt the minute you wake up in the morning. Marvel at the wonder of your eyes opening up! Take a moment to listen to your heart. Isn’t it miraculous that it continues to beat without your control? Continue all throughout your day to be on the lookout for awe-inspiring moments, situations that totally surprise you, unexpected events that lead to new experiences or connections with others. (HINT: Nature is full of miracles!)

You’ll notice that once you start to hunt for miracles how many will come your way, too. It will astound you! How can you have a bad day when you are focused on miracles?

    Wishing you many miracles!

Letting go has to be one of the most challenging situations we can find ourselves in. Whether we are letting go of an old habit or pattern, a relationship, our stuff, a career, our current living situation, resentments, old ways of thinking, or  grieving the loss of someone close to us, letting go puts us face to face with moving away from a very familiar place—our comfort zone. We are true creatures of habit and we are very attached to our comfort zone!

I’ve let go of many things in my life—some by choice, others not– and one of the most challenging was letting go of my beloved cat last year. Making the decision to put him down due to an incurable illness was a very painful one.

Acts of letting go, though, change us and depending on what they are can open up new opportunities, experiences and often times a sense of freedom and lightness. When we allow ourselves to let go we step into a place full of new understanding, we see life and even ourselves differently.

The challenge comes, of course, with moving beyond the “all powerful gatekeeper”– resistance, but once we transcend this very natural part of the process that’s when the miracles happen!

The miracle of letting go of my cat was a true, very deep understanding that he would always live in my heart and our connection would continue there with the memories. And… with this one act of letting go came another miracle, a new fury, four-legged friend named Milo!

When you are faced with a decision to let go instead of being stopped dead in your tracks by the fear of resistance, see it differently. Choose to see this act of letting go as the opening to miracles. Keep your focus on the possibilities. Have faith, trust that you are being guided and have the strength within you to make it through. Then just watch for the miracles to show up!

This winter I had an experience where I didn’t want to get out of bed on a workday. Generally I start my day around seven, but this particular day I was laying there watching the snow fall and feeling mesmerized by all the millions of little white flakes floating down. I did not want to get up! And I had three projects that needed to be completed that day.

As I lay there in my nice cozy comfy bed I began to hear two voices. One was saying, “Stay in bed and enjoy the freedom of the moment.” The other was saying, “You have to get up and get those projects done by the end of the day or you’ll be way behind then you’ll have to devote even more time to catch up.” One voice sounded very gentle and loving and the other sounded like a taskmaster. I made a decision in that moment to listen to the gentler voice. In fact, I decided to listen to it all day. You’ll never believe what happened.

I rolled out of bed around nine and completely shifted out of my regular routine of spiritual reading, meditation and yoga and turned on the television! (I don’t watch that much television and I never watch it during the day.) I ate breakfast on the couch and stayed in my pajamas. I continued to listen to this soft loving voice as it lead me away from the plans I made to work on my projects and into freedom!

It felt so good, and yet, even though I found myself experiencing moments of guilt, I knew it was the ego voice. I didn’t listen. I kept focused on doing what the gentle voice guided me to do and I began to feel energized and light. There was absolutely nothing pushing me. It became clear to me that this gentle voice was allowing me to let go of control and trust the moment. I have to say, that as awkward as it felt, I knew it was right.

Around two thirty that afternoon I suddenly became really energized about my projects, but the energy felt different. I didn’t feel like anything was pushing or pulling me along. When I opened the computer to write, inspired ideas flowed out of me. It was effortless! My other two projects were also completed in the same joyful and light way and all of three were accomplished by five thirty in time for me to attend my networking meeting! These projects generally take me most of the day.

The lesson…When you feel pushed you wind up tired and lose your joy. Think about it, it takes energy to hurry up; the energy you need to complete your tasks. Keep listening to the soft gentle voice of Spirit and all of your projects will be competed on time and with ease!
